Tank Log: Month 8 |

General Observations
The tank is now eight months old. This page was a little late
getting up because I had run out of room on my web server. That has now
been corrected. Coralline algae growth has accelerated for some reason and
it has to be cleaned from the front glass every week. Overall health of
the tank continues to be good. There are quite a few frags now growing on
the sand waiting to be traded in for store credit.

New Additions
There have been no additions this last month.
Deaths/Specimen Problems
| Dragon Pipefish Corythoichthys intestinalis The Dragon Pipefish did very well for several weeks. One morning, his body was found under the elegance coral. He may have been stung to death since the elegance has a pretty powerful sting. Very unfortunate as he quickly was a favorite to watch prowling around looking for pods. |
Tank problems and opportunities for improvement.
| A staghorn frag has died after being in the tank for about 5 months. This was a frag from a large specimen which was several years old in another tank. Cause of death is uncertain, but it can be seen that the tissue recession is continuing onto the adjacent orange Montipora digitata. | |
Diatoms have been accumulating on the glass. As noted below, I have added some Marc Weiss Phosphate & Silicate remover to the sump. I may also add Phosgard which has proven to be affective in getting rid of excess silicates which encourage the diatom growth. |

Maintenance
Refilled the CO2 bottle for the calcium reactor. I continue to do weekly 10 gallon water changes with Kent salt. I also added 2 more bags of Marc Weiss Phosphate & Silicate remover to the sump to help prevent any algae problems from taking hold.
